The Eau Claire Ski Striders have been the driving force promoting cross-country skiing and facility development in the area for nearly 50 years.
After initial trail construction at Tower Ridge in 1977, the group has been involved with and donated toward trail development and equipment at additional locations including Lowes Creek, Fairfax Park, Mt. Washington, and Hickory Ridge.
They’ve launched and facilitated youth programs like Kickin’ Kids, hosted annual races and events, offered lessons and clinics, maintained maps, and much more.
Over the decades, their primary facility focus has been at Tower Ridge, where they’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars including to build the multi-use Chalet, purchase grooming equipment, install trail lighting, and most recently, create two lighted skills parks.
“Get It Groomed” campaign is their latest effort to improve the availability and quality of experience for Nordic skiing in the Chippewa Valley, to the benefit of locals and visitors alike.
Consider becoming a member of the Ski Striders (only $20/year) to support their work and stay informed about happenings, events, and opportunities on the snow and year round. As they sustain and increase their membership, they’ll have a stronger voice in maintaining and improving area trails and events.
